Real Images engage real people

11-Jul-2017

The imagery on your website plays a vital role in conveying the story behind your brand and developing an emotional connection with your customers. Unfortunately, the web is plagued by cheesy, overused and cringe worthy stock shots.

In today’s society anything can be photographed, stored and shared online. According to Deloitte, in 2016 2.6 trillion photos were shared and stored online. 90% of these shots were taken with smart phones.

In a world where everyone is a photographer, the demand for original and authentic images is predicted to escalate. According to research from Depositphoto’s the trend for 2017 indicates a growing demand for original, candid images.

People respond more readily to images that capture moments of real life rather than a polished, posed look. They can easily recognise the difference between a canned stock shot and an image that comes across as being real and authentic.

Poor quality imagery reflects negatively on the brand. Cheap cheesy stock shots make the organisation appear to be cheap and cheesy. Brands and their designers need to pay far greater consideration to the quality, relevance and authenticity of the imagery they use.

A picture is worth a thousand words

Original photography produced by a professional photographer working with a designer is the ideal scenario. You can create the exact image and unique composition you want to tell the story behind your brand. Yes it can be expensive, but the greater engagement with customers can bring significant returns.

If your budget is limited, Tomas Laurinavicius highlights there are plenty of authentic photography websites to source free quality images from. These images are not as good as commissioning a photographer, but if you do your research and select the images most appropriate for your brand they can provide significant value.

Remember, the images you use on your website are not there just to break up the text and make the site look more appealing. Unique and quality imagery is vital to building trust and engagement with customers. Consumers want to interact with brands that are authentic and they can trust.

Blick’s design philosophy puts the user and your customers first. Quality and unique imagery that builds strong emotional connections with a brand is a notable aspect of all websites and marketing material designed by Blick. Blick also offers photography services in our own studio or on-site at your work, location or event.
